Unit Definition (speed of light [air])
The speed of light in a vacuum is exactly equal to 299,792,458 metres per second (approximately 186,282.4 miles per second). The speed of light is denoted by the letter c, reputedly from the Latin celeritas, "speed", and also known as Einstein's constant. This exact speed is a definition, not a measurement, as the metre itself is defined in terms of the speed of light and the second.

Unit Definition (mach)
The Mach is a measure of velocity relative to the speed of sound. The precise speed of sound varies with the density and temperature of the atmosphere, although at 0 °C (at 1atm.) the speed of sound is 331.6 m/s. The mach speed is important to the control of an aircraft, especially at speeds close to or exceeding Mach 1.0. The unit is named after the Austrian physicist Ernst Mach.
